School Philosophy of Education
The concepts of Montessori, Piaget, Gessell and British Infant Schools formulate the basis of our leaning approach with emphasis
on the creation of a learning environment wherein the child has the freedom to discover through hands-on learning. Academic
achievement is at one's own rate and is viewed as a part of the "whole child's" development.
The elements
of this philosophy are direct contact with the environment that afford natural, sensory and cultural experiences. There is
an underlying belief that atmosphere and vitality will foster self motivation and inner direction. All experiences can best
flourish with freedom of movement in the classroom. Learning is based on interdisciplinary theme presentation, un-segmented.
Peer learning is encouraged. The teacher functions as a preparer of the environment, a facilitator and observer, and as a
helper.
Our small class sizes and curriculum further emphasizes that the child feels good about him/herself,
and that this is best accomplished through giving the child a sense of identity. Feeling of worth and self and honest valuing
of the child's contributions. An attitude of allowing the self to fail and make mistakes and an accetance of individual differences
while developing the understating of relationship to the group will become the foundation of a child's self esteem. A living
of the Golden Rule will emphasize helping an appropriate behaviour will be stressed
